THE ART OF MOONJUBE

Donna Outtrim (moonjube) is a Canadian artist currently based in Alberta, Canada.

Through wanderings in realms of innocence, surreal landscapes where whimsy and the uncanny mingle, her work in digital collage is an unfiltered expression of emotion and an exploration of the transient nature of existence.

A treasure box of light and shade, peopled with characters both strange and wondrous, her pieces are crafted portals of escape, as well as journeys into the subconscious through images.

Here is a place to think and feel freely, a land to discover and rediscover, and hopefully somewhere where the viewer can find a piece of themselves among the dreams and flowers.

ABOUT DONNA

As a child I loved making collages and have many cherished memories of rummaging through magazines to find all the best pictures to use. Yet my real journey into the world of art began unexpectedly, only a few years ago.

About 5 years ago my father passed away and this loss turned my world upside down. As I began working through my grief and healing my heart, I started to experiment with digital collage. It was as though all the pain I was carrying in my body cracked open, allowing me access to the creative source that I had always longed to tap into.

I initially started using my own photography as a template for my collages, building around the imagery that was already present in the photographs. With a fascination for vintage photography and vintage postcards from the early 1900s, well as a love for psychedelic colour, I started cutting and pasting, adding hues, textures, patterns, and layers, and before I knew it I had created something wonderful - my first digital collage! It filled me with joy to translate feeling into form in a fun, and unique way, creating a whimsical world along the way. As my pieces evolved the images began to unravel into stories, tales that visually expressed the motions of my heart.

I still approach the process of collage like a puzzle. The mystery of a story unfolding through image, the secret place that never quiet reveals itself.  Moving and layering things until it fits just right. In the last few years, I have made over a hundred collages, and I can't see myself giving it up any time soon. Art has become my medicine. It's truly transformed my life and connected me to something greater than myself. I am so incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to create and to share these creations with others.
